Montalbano Castle is the only one castIe in the city of Florence with more than 1300 years of history and it is one of the oldest buildings of the whole Tuscany. Ancient property of the Tedaldi da Fiesole noble family, in 768 hosted Charles the Great and his Court moved to Rome where Charles the Great would have been crowned Emperor by the Pope Leone III. During the Renaissance era, Michelangelo said that Montalbano Castle was one of the most beautiful exemples of castles’ architecture of the whole Tuscany. Mussolini in the ’30 came to Montalbano Castle to meet the War English Minister Chamberlain. Friar Savonarola cell, (1452-1498) the heretic friar burnt on the stake in Piazza della Signoria in Florence Friar Bartolomeo cell, (1472-1517), who painted the famous Savonarola portrait Friars Antonino (1389-1459) and Paolino (1488-1547) cell, respectively San Marco Convent prior, and Bartolomeo painter disciple Friar Beato Angelico cell, (1395-1455), the most important painter who frescoed all San Marco Convent cells. From all the cells windows, enjoy the terrific panorama of the city of Florence, only 5 km far.
